How to add your PayFast credentials in Pulse

Add your PayFast credentials in Pulse under PayFast Settings. Unlock with your PIN, accept the 1% platform fee, choose Sandbox or Live, enter your Merchant ID, Merchant Key and optional passphrase, then Save. This enables online payment links on invoices and payment requests.

Adding your own PayFast credentials lets Pulse generate online payment links on your invoices and payment requests, with money going straight to your PayFast account. You configure them under PayFast Settings in the sidebar (admin access required).

Before you start

  • You need organisation admin or owner access.
  • You need a PayFast account at payfast.co.za.
  • A 1% platform fee applies to PayFast-completed transactions.

Add your credentials step by step

  1. In the sidebar, open PayFast Settings.
  2. Unlock the secure vault with your PIN.
  3. Tick the Platform Fee Authorization (the 1% platform fee). This is required before you can save.
  4. Choose your Environment: Sandbox for testing or Live for real payments.
  5. Enter your Merchant ID, Merchant Key, and Passphrase (optional) for that environment.
  6. Optionally set custom Return, Cancel, and Notify (ITN) URLs.
  7. Click Save Credentials.

Where to find your PayFast credentials

  1. Log in to your account at payfast.co.za.
  2. Go to Settings → Integration.
  3. Copy your Merchant ID and Merchant Key.
  4. If you use one, copy your passphrase from the Security section.
  5. For testing, use sandbox credentials from sandbox.payfast.co.za.

Good to know

Without credentials, payment requests and invoices still send but without an online pay link. You can switch between Sandbox and Live at any time — Live processes real money, so test in Sandbox first.
