PayFast Links and Credentials in Pulse

How PayFast payment links work in Pulse, where to add credentials, and what happens when an invoice is sent without PayFast configured.

Pulse can generate PayFast links for invoices and payment items, but only when your organisation has its own PayFast credentials saved. Pulse does not use the platform account for your organisation's customer invoices.

Where PayFast credentials live

Admins can add or update PayFast details from Admin > PayFast Settings. These credentials identify your PayFast merchant account, so payments go to the correct organisation.

What happens when credentials are configured

When you send an invoice or generate a PayFast link from Payments, Pulse creates a payment link for the payable amount. That link can be added to the email, copied from the Payments page, and included in the PDF when available.

What happens when credentials are missing

If your organisation has no PayFast credentials, Pulse can still save and send invoices. The difference is simple: the invoice goes out without a PayFast payment link.

If you expected a link and do not see one, check PayFast Settings first. After credentials are configured, generate or resend the payment link from the invoice or Payments page.

Copying a payment link

Open the Payments page, find the active payment item, and use the copy-link action if a PayFast link is available. Pulse may show a shorter payment link for sharing, while still preserving the full PayFast destination behind it.

Deposits and remaining balances

If an invoice has a deposit amount, the first payment link can be for the deposit instead of the full total. If the client has already paid part of the invoice, Pulse can generate a new link for the remaining balance.

Common reasons a PayFast link is missing

  • PayFast credentials have not been added for the organisation.
  • The invoice has not been sent yet.
  • The invoice has no outstanding balance.
  • The payment item was cancelled or already paid.

Does Pulse use its own PayFast account for my invoices?

No. Your organisation needs its own PayFast credentials for customer invoice payment links.

Can I send invoices before PayFast is configured?

Yes. The invoice can still be sent, but it will not include a PayFast payment link until credentials are added and a link is generated.
