Turning a Lead into a Client in Pulse
How to convert a won lead into a Pulse client, what requirements must be met before conversion, what happens to the lead data after conversion, and how commission attribution works.
Pulse · 16 Jun 2026
Converting a lead to a client is the closing step in the pipeline. It takes the lead record you have been building and creates a live client account in Pulse so billing, project management, and communication can begin.
What you need before converting
Two things must be present on the lead for conversion to work:
- A valid email address — this becomes the client's login credential.
- A named contact person — this is used to create the client's name in the system.
If either is missing, Pulse will block the conversion and prompt you to add the missing information first.
How to convert
From the lead detail or the lead card menu, choose the convert option. Pulse opens a confirmation step where you can review the deal type (one-off or retainer) and estimated value before confirming. These are recorded as part of the conversion outcome.
What happens when you convert
Pulse runs several steps automatically:
- A new client user account is created with the email and contact name from the lead. The client receives an invite email with a link to set their password and access Pulse. Invite links are valid for 7 days.
- If a Pulse user with that email already exists (for example, a team member), the lead is linked to them instead and you receive a warning.
- The lead's status changes to Won.
- The deal type and estimated value are recorded in the conversion outcome.
- The assigned rep from the lead is stamped onto the new client account. This creates the commission attribution trail — any invoices paid by this client can be traced back to the rep who worked the lead.
- The conversion is written to the lead activity log with a timestamp and the time it took from lead creation to conversion in days.
After conversion
The lead record stays in Pulse with its status showing Won. It does not disappear. You can return to it to review the enrichment, activities, and conversion timeline.
The new client appears in the Clients list and can be assigned to projects, invoices, and communication flows immediately. Their contact details, company name, and notes carry over from the lead record.
Commission attribution
Pulse records the assigned rep from the lead onto the client account. When invoices linked to this client are paid, the payment flows through the commission system using the rep attribution from the lead conversion chain. If the assigned rep is later changed on a converted lead, Pulse updates the attribution on pending payment requests for that client.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert a lead more than once?
No. A lead that has already been converted is locked from a second conversion. The existing client record linked to the lead will be shown if you try to convert again.
What if the client never accepts their invite?
The client account exists in Pulse even if the invite email is not acted on. The admin can resend the invite, and the client can still be assigned to projects and invoices in the meantime.
