How to Create a Project in Pulse
How to create a project, choose a client, set statuses and dates, and understand what a client can and cannot do with a project.
Pulse · 16 Jun 2026
Projects in Pulse connect client work to milestones, files, collaborators, and payments. Creating one takes about a minute, and you can fill in more detail over time as the job progresses.
Open the create form
Go to Projects and choose New Project. The create panel opens as a full-screen slide-over. On mobile, the admin flow starts by selecting a client before showing the rest of the form.
Required fields
Every project needs a name. The name is what appears on the project card, in notifications to clients, and in milestone and payment references.
If you are creating the project as an admin, you also need to choose a client. The client receives milestone update notifications and can log in to view the project, upload files, and send comments.
Optional fields
- Status — Planning, In Progress, Awaiting Feedback, or Completed. Both admins and clients can set the first three. Only admins can move a project to Completed.
- Description — up to 2000 characters of context about the project scope, deliverables, or notes for the client.
- Start date and due date — the due date must be on or after the start date. The due date appears on the calendar as a deadline event.
Progress is automatic
You do not manually enter a progress percentage. Pulse calculates it from the milestone progress of the project. If a project has no milestones, it shows 0%. As milestones move through their stages, the project progress ring updates.
Project statuses in practice
- Planning — work has not started yet. Use this when the project exists but the team has not kicked off.
- In Progress — active work is happening. Milestones are being added and completed.
- Awaiting Feedback — work is done or paused pending the client's response. Both admins and clients can set this status.
- Completed — admin-only. The project is finished. Once a project is marked Completed, clients cannot change the status back.
After creating the project
The new project appears in the Projects list with a progress ring, status badge, and due date. Click it to open the project detail, which has five tabs: Milestones, Files, Collaborators, Quick Links, and Tickets.
Frequently asked questions
Can a client create a project?
Clients can create projects from their side, but admin users must assign and manage the client relationship. Clients creating their own projects cannot assign a different client.
Can I delete a project?
Admins can delete most projects. Clients can only delete projects they own if the project is in Planning or Awaiting Feedback status, has 0% progress, and has no payment link attached.
